Second Annual National Bioenergy Day: A Conversation on Conversions
Wednesday, October 22, 2014 • 10:00AM - 2:00PM
USDA Forest Service, Region 2 Headquarters
740 Simms St. • Golden, CO 80401

The Second Annual National Bioenergy Day is a nationwide day of advocacy for using biomass, including forest biomass, to generate energy for projects ranging from large-scale utilities to home heating stoves. This particular event will be “A Conversation on Conversions,” where the focus is on how to convert small-to-district-scale opportunities from using fossil fuels to using forest biomass to provide heat. By the end of the event, you will:

• understand some of the benefits of using forest biomass to provide heat,
• how and why forest biomass was is currently used in some long-standing, successful regional examples to lower heating costs while improving forest health at the same time, and
• what resources are (and will be) available to assist you with your own conversions.

This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Light refreshments and coffee will be served prior to 10AM. A catered sandwich lunch will be provided. If you have any special dietary needs, please indicate so when you RSVP.

To RSVP, please contact Dr. Mike Eckhoff at mike.eckhoff@colostate.edu or 970-219-2140 by noon on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Society of American Foresters CFEs will be available.

Wildfire and Watersheds

Massive wildfires that directly threaten rural communities also threaten urban communities through their water supplies. Many organizations throughout the country are now working together to protect our water supplies by protecting our forests.

The Rio Grande Water Fund is a solution that can bring clean water to New Mexicans for generations to come. This innovative project will invest in the restoration of forested lands upstream so we can secure clean water for communities in these watersheds and downstream. Our goal is to generate sustainable funding over the next 20 years to proactively increase the pace and scale of forest restoration, including the most high-risk areas in the Rio Grande watershed. We are working together so
nature can keep working for us.
