The Pine Beetle has arrived
in Stove Prairie
and has successfully transitioned from Lodgepole to Ponderosa Pine.
Like any other natural phenomenon, we can't stop it.
However, there are actions we can take to slow the infestation and reduce the damage that will be done should the increased number of dead trees fuel more frequent and intense wildfires.
You are invited to attend a tour and workshop to see the pine beetle infestation at:
- Jon & Sue Stephens, Scaffold Gulch Ranch
- 1406 Stove Prairie Road
- Saturday, February 21, 2009
- at 10am
You can see infested trees, up close, and get tips on how to identify and treat beetle infestation on your own property.
Scott Golden is treating the beetle infestation on the Stephens property and will give a PowerPoint presentation and tour. Scott is a Stove Prairie resident and the Forestry & Biomass Specialist for Boulder County Parks & Open Space.
A number of other professional foresters and local forestry contractors will be available to answer your questions and help you treat infested trees on your own property and prepare for wildfire.
This tour and workshop is sponsored by the Larimer County Tree Farmers. www.treefarmer.com
Everyone attending is eligible to receive the Colorado Tree Farmer's Forest Management Manual, Saving Your Forest. It has in depth information on how to identify beetles, how to manage your forest, how to prepare for wildfire, and where to find help to accomplish all that. If you want a manual please RSVP to stumpmaker@gmail.com so we can bring enough books for everyone.
